My Least Favorite Things

There are a couple types of music that I do not enjoy listening to. I dont necassarily dislike the the style of music because there are some artist who can pull it off good but there are others that do not and I do not enjoy them. One of the style I tend not to listen to is country, Its not that I hate what they are doing its just that after about 2 songs it just annoys me. Something about the tone of the songs I just do not enjoy. The only artist I know of right now that I can stand in country music is Taylor Swift but she has more of a rock edge. The other kind of music I do not listen to is pop, although i do enjoy some songs in this genre. The main reason I do not like this stuff is that there is no passion in it and I can not relate to the lyrics at all. These are the two types of music that I dont realy listen at all.

My Favorite Things

I listen to a lot of different kinds of music. There are pop songs that I like, Hip Hop songs, Rock songs, etc, but my favorite kind of music would be Pop Punk/Hardcore. When I say pop punk I do not mean bands like Boy Like Girls, I am into a more raw, passionate form of this music. If i list a bunch of bands i listen to chances are you wouldnt know 75 percent of them. The bands i listen to are not "famous" the do not get radio play and are not known as mainstream. My favorite band which has been for years now is a band called Means, they are a Regina based band and if wasnt for them i probally wouldnt listen or play the music i play now. They are not really pop punk and take on a more hardcore feel. The reason i am into bands like this i think is because i can connect with the lyrics and see the passion from the artist.

What is Music?

The answer to this question can be different for every person, but for me music is more than just notes on a paper or a note on an instrument its a way to express my emotions through sounds and words(although i dont sing i do help write lyrics). Music has so much passion and is an amazing thing. Me being a songwriter I probally think of music as being something totally different then someone who listens to Lady Gaga or Kesha. Someone who listens to this could think it is music which I guess by definition it is, but its artificial and not sincere at all, its a quick trip to fame and having songwriters write your songs for you I do not think is music .I think music is an escape in ways, it can help you get through hard times and it can bring really good times. When I am playing music infront of people or by myself or at a concert for one of my favorite bands the rest of the world is on pause its just me, or me and my friends and the music. I dont have to worry about whats going on in life and I can just escape in the music. So to close music for me is expression wheather it be singing to a song, playing guitar by yourself, playing to a crowd of people, or yelling your lungs out at a concert its all expressing your emotions.
